What it's like to use

You buckle it on like an ordinary collar and the screen tells you where you are: a digit for the level, small icons for the mode. Leave it on beep and it chirps the instant your dog starts up, which for a lot of dogs is the whole intervention. Move to beep-and-vibration and the nudge arrives with the sound. The two static modes sit behind the same button, and plenty of owners never reach them. Do bark collars have to shock the dog?

Will it fire when the neighbour's dog barks?

The better collars want two signals before they act. The PetSafe, the Pawious and the Patpet all say they need the bark sound and the vibration in your dog's own throat together; Garmin states its system cuts false corrections from scratching or a dog nearby. A collar that triggers on sound alone will punish your dog for someone else's noise.
